AND FOR WOMEN WITH YOUTHFUL MIND
Learn to skate, meet new friends and come to try girls’ fast-paced ice sport ringette! The Ministry of Education and Culture has granted funds for the ramp-up of this skating school for the seasons 2019 – 2020 and 2020-2021. Ringette Walapais warmly welcomes teenagers and adults with youthful mind to come skate with us.
WHY OWN SKATING SCHOOL
FOR TEENAGERS' AND
FOR YOUTHFUL WOMEN?
Traditionally the skating schools have been planned for children and their needs in mind. For teenagers and especially for youthful adults those exercises meant for small children may feel childish and the lacking company of same-aged peers may weaken the enthusiasm to learn to how to skate.

Teenagers' skating school has been built
and tailored based on the needs of 10-16 year old teenagers. When the hour plans, learning curve and content has been planned, we have involved girls, who have been 12-14 year old themselves, when they started skating.
The exercises in the Teenagers' Skating School are planned for teenagers. During the season and continuously we listen to the voice and feedback from the teenagers themselves, gather development ideas and wishes.
WOULD IN THE SKATING SCHOOL FOR TEENAGERS BE SOMETHING SPECIFICALLY FOR ME?
In the Teenagers’ Skating School we learn to skate and play ringette together with other same-aged beginners.
You have a permission to succeed and develop – and also to fail in the skating school. Of utmost importance is that you have fun and that you feel that you are learning new skills.
In the skating school you get to know other teenagers, other youthful adults and get encouraging feedback. Ringette Walapais is an responsible organization and creates an encouraging environment for the Teenagers’ Skating School.
It is up to you, whether the skating school is your thing. We strongly believe that when you come to try on the ice with us, you will come back.
CAN I COME AND JUST TRY FIRST?
Of course, you can! You can come to three sessions of Teenagers' Skating School for free (free trial period) in order to find out, whether skating and ringette is a new hobby for you at least for now. After the three sessions / free trial period you will decide whether you want to continue or not.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED TO TAKE WITH ME TO THE SKATING SCHOOL?
During the first three sessions (free trial period), you need only the skates, helmet and clothing suitable for sport and warm gloves. It is actually not that cold in the ice rink, so you do not have to have too thick clothes. The skates may be either hockey skates or figure skates.
When and if you decide to continue after the free trial period, you will also need a neck guard. During the free trial period you may borrow the neck guard from the skating school.

Skating School for teenagers and
for youthful women in Myyrmäki:
On sundays

Over 10-year old children can also attend to our skating school in Tikkurila, but the guidance specifically designed for teenagers and youthful adults is only available at our skating school in Myyrmäki.
On Wednesdays at 18:00 – 19:00
(30th of August 2023 onwards)

During the same session there is a skating school for the children in the other end of the ice rink.
You may join the skating school at any point of time during the season (September – April).
It is mandatory to register for skating school in advance, so that we can reserve and plan to have a sufficient amount of coaches and instructors on the ice.
WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF A TEENAGERS' SKATING SCHOOL?
The costs of the hobby in Ringette Walapais are kept reasonable and transparent.
The monthly fees during the season 2023 – 2024 are the following:
25 EUR per month when participating once a week.
In addition to the monthly fee there is the club’s membership fee (8 EUR) and a season fee (50 EUR) invoiced once during the season (September – April).
WHAT ABOUT AFTER THE SKATING SCHOOL?
After learning the basics of the skating, you may move to a junior team suitable for you if you wish.
Traditionally it has been easy to move to Walapais teams as the teams’ players are visiting the skating school sessions and hence you get to know some of the players. In the teams we are emphasizing the individual strengths of each player and the coaches are committed to treat each player as an individual.
After the skating school it is also possible to continue the hobby as an assistant coach in the children’s skating school or in a junior team.
In this case you are assisting a team’s coach in the exercises on the ice and outside the ice. This way you will learn the role of a coach in practice.
In order to provide you with a meaningful hobby after learning the basic skills in the skating school, we will define an individual player path or – if you wish – a coach path for you, similarly as for other participants of the Teenagers’ Skating School.

FOR YOUTHFUL WOMEN
Welcome to register for Ringette Walapais’s skating school! If there are more than one teenager joining, please register them separately.
With this form you can register the mandatory information we need to have a sufficient amount of coaches on the ice and to communicate about possible changes etc. if any need.
Please notice that we are using the same registration form for the children’s, for the teenagers’ and for the youthful womens' skating schools. So if you are a youthful woman, please use common sense, when filling in the registration form below.
No information about the skating school registrations is disclosed as such outside the club, but it is available only for the officers of the club (Ringette Walapais ry). ​
